As social workers specialising in child and family support, as well as play therapy, we work with many families who are navigating disability, new diagnoses, and the NDIS.

As a parent, you want to give your child the best opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive - and navigating systems of support, like the NDIS, can feel overwhelming.
That’s where our experienced team of social workers (and qualified play therapists) come in to support your family.
As social workers, we are trained to play a vital role in supporting families by helping children with disabilities develop essential skills, and ensuring parents feel empowered and equipped along the way. Whether through advocacy, emotional support, or practical strategies, social workers help families access the right resources and build capacity for long-term wellbeing.
What does a social worker do?
Social workers can provide a wide range of support tailored to each family's needs.
This can include:
ADVOCACY
Helping families understand their rights, access funding, and ensure their child gets the support they need in schools, therapy, and the community.
CAPACITY BUILDING
Working alongside you and your child to build skills, confidence, and independence, e.g. helping your child develop emotional regulation tools, supporting daily routines, or empowering families to navigate challenges together.
NAVIGATING THE NDIS
The NDIS can be complex. Social workers help families understand their child’s plan, make the most of available supports, and coordinate services.
ASSESSMENT SERVICES
Our tertiary-qualified social workers have over 1,000 hours of supervised practice and offer thorough assessments to support funding applications, intervention planning, and individualised care strategies.
COUNSELLING AND THERAPY
Social workers are trained to provide therapy tailored to individual needs. Whether it’s addressing trauma, anxiety, or life transitions, we help children and families process emotions and build resilience.
PLANNING
We partner with you to map out achievable pathways forward, e.g. identifying strengths, setting goals, or creating actionable plans.
PARENT COACHING AND PARENTING CONSULTS
We provide guidance and training for parents, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure everyone involved in your child’s life is equipped to provide the best possible care.
Social Work Support through the NDIS: If your child is supported through the NDIS, many of these services can be funded under Capacity Building line items.
How Social Workers and Play Therapists support NDIS participants
Support for children and teens who are NDIS participants
At Play Therapy with Evonne, we offer holistic, child-centred support. This means we focus on formal skills as well as helping children express themselves, process emotions, and engage in learning through play.
We work with children and teens with a range of needs, including:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
ADHD
Anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties
Intellectual and developmental disabilities
Physical disabilities
Trauma and attachment challenges
By creating a safe and nurturing space, we help children build resilience, develop self-confidence, and navigate life’s challenges with support.
Support for parents and families with NDIS funding
As a parent, you are your child’s greatest advocate. That doesn’t mean you have to do it all alone.
We also work alongside families, parents and caregivers, to:
Increase understanding of your child’s strengths, needs, and behaviours
Provide practical strategies for daily routines, communication, and emotional regulation
Support you in advocating for your child within school and community settings
Offer a non-judgemental space where you feel heard and supported.
