Frequently Asked Questions

What is ADHD Social Work Support? ADHD Social Work Support combines evidence-based ADHD knowledge with practical strategies, emotional wellbeing support, and family care. As a Social Worker, I look beyond symptoms alone to understand the whole child or teen, including their emotions, relationships, environment, strengths, and everyday challenges. Together, we work to build confidence, emotional regulation, executive functioning skills, and practical systems that support success at home, school, and in daily life.

What's the difference between ADHD Social Work Support and ADHD Coaching? While both ADHD Coaching and ADHD Social Work Support can be valuable, ADHD Social Work Support offers regulated and evidence-backed therapeutic support from an experienced allied health professional. As an Accredited Social Worker and ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), I provide support that draws from the best practice research around ADHD and considers emotional wellbeing, anxiety, family relationships, school challenges, self-esteem, and life circumstances alongside ADHD. Many families appreciate having support from an experienced, regulated Allied Health professional who can work collaboratively with schools, other professionals, and family members when needed. ADHD social work support is all about: - Tailoring strategies to the person’s strengths, needs, and goals - Working collaboratively with clients and families - Offering flexible, practical support that is realistic and sustainable - Focusing on wellbeing, connection, and everyday functioning - Supporting clients to create systems that work with their brain, not against it.

Is ADHD social work support personalised to my child? Absolutely. Every child, teenager, and family is different. ADHD can look very different from one person to another, which is why support is always tailored to your young person's strengths, goals, interests, challenges, and stage of development. Together, we'll explore what is working, what feels difficult, and develop practical strategies that fit your child's unique needs.

Are parents involved in the process? Yes, wherever appropriate. Parents and caregivers play an important role in supporting children and teenagers. Depending on your child's age and needs, sessions may include parent involvement, parent check-ins, practical strategies for home, and collaborative goal setting. The aim is to help everyone feel more confident, connected, and supported.

What kinds of challenges can ADHD social work support and therapy help with? ADHD social work support may help with: - Emotional regulation - Anxiety and overwhelm - Executive functioning skills - Organisation and planning - Motivation and follow-through - School-related challenges - Friendships and social confidence - Self-esteem and self-belief - Family relationships and communication - Understanding a new ADHD diagnosis.

Does my child need a formal ADHD diagnosis to access your support? Not at all. ADHD social work support can be beneficial for young people who have a diagnosis, are currently being assessed, or are experiencing ADHD-related challenges and would benefit from practical strategies and support.

Can ADHD social work support help with anxiety too? Yes. Many young people with ADHD also experience anxiety, overwhelm, perfectionism, or emotional burnout. Support can help develop emotional regulation skills, coping strategies, self-understanding, and confidence while addressing the unique overlap between ADHD and anxiety.

Do you work alongside schools and other professionals? Yes. As a Social Worker, where appropriate, I can collaborate with teachers, schools, allied health professionals, and support teams to help create a more consistent and supportive approach around your child. I can also advocate alongside clients in school, workplace, or service settings to help you get the supports you need.

What ages do you work with? I support children, teenagers, and their families. Support is always adapted to the young person's developmental stage, goals, strengths, and individual needs.

What can we expect from ADHD social work support? My approach is neuroaffirming, practical, and strengths-based. Together, we work to help young people better understand their brain, build confidence, strengthen emotional regulation and executive functioning skills, and create strategies that work with their brain rather than against it. The goal isn't to change who they are. It's to help them thrive as themselves.

Is ADHD social work support available through NDIS funding? Yes. ADHD Social Work Support may be available for participants who are self-managed or plan-managed through the NDIS, depending on individual circumstances and plan goals. If you're unsure whether your funding can be used for this type of support, please get in touch and we can discuss your situation.
